Ashtanga, the latest production under the theatrical meditation series by Tsang Man-tung, is a meditation journey exploring the wisdom of The Yoga Sutras. Through stillness and awareness, we go deep into our heart, and return to the pure state of meditative consciousness. The invitation is for all to come and experience this path of the Self.

The Yoga Sutras outline the essence of Yoga and have long been recognised as the foundation for all yogis. The first sutra Chitta vritti nirodha (often translated as “And now Yoga”) has said it all – the experience of union begins now. Inspired by the "Eight Limbs of Yoga" in The Yoga Sutras, Ashtanga will take the audience onto an inner journey through the eight essential steps of yoga practices: Yama (Moral Precepts) – Niyama (Personal Observances) – Asana (Postures) – Pranayama (Control of Life Force) – Pratyahara (Withdrawal of the Senses) – Dharana (Concentration) – Dhyana (Meditation) – Samadhi (Absorption). From body to mind, from the gross to the subtle, the practice leads the way back to oneness.

Singing Bowl  x  Yoga  x  Music  x  Dance

“Yoga, inspired by nature, returns to its true nature;

Singing bowls ground the mind through the sound.” —- Tsang Man-tung

The journey of theatrical meditation, following the sequence of the eight limbs of Yoga, presents an abundance of sensations. Dance with touches of traditional yoga asanas flows with the rhythm of nature. Live performance of singing bowls, flutes, drums and chanting are weaved into a unique grounding experience. We hope the audience can connect with oneself through the harmonious rhythm, find the path of inner peace and bring home a sense of tranquillity. Let’s take this initial step on the path of union!

Ashtanga is the fifth theatrical meditation by Tsang Man-tung following The Light of Metempsychosis, The Heart Sutra, Vipassana-Silent Walk and Silence in the Woods.

Running time of this non-verbal performance is approximately 80 minutes without intermission.  Audience is strongly advised to arrive punctually. Latecomers and audience members who leave during the performance will only be admitted at a suitable break.
